With a new Administration in office, we find a renewed crisis brewing on our Southern border. Many of the old arguments on both sides will be dragged out to defend their positions, but few cite facts to support their own claims. Coulter can be loud and brash at times, but the question I always ask when someone attacks the messenger, is, “If the information correct or not?” Closing one’s mind because one does not like the messenger is a sure way to insure group think. I would recommend this book for advocates on both sides of this debate. The key point of her book is that any immigration policy should firstly be designed for the best interests of the country (any country). An immigration policy is NOT designed for the benefit of 1) the immigrants, or 2) the nations supplying the immigrants.
Although often presented as a book directed against illegal immigration, she reviews the impact of all immigration on the U.S., citing facts and figures (not arguments created out of smoke) to show that in very many cases, immigrants have had a negative impact on our school system, welfare costs, crime statistics, etc. She documents how “honor killings” have been excused by judges due to the immigrant “not understanding our laws”, how over 50% of our prison population at the Federal level is comprised of immigrants, etc.
A key element of being able to defend your beliefs is that you understand the facts presented by the other side and Coulter presents facts which any proponent of open borders needs to be able to counter in order to be taken seriously.
Agree or disagree, but get the facts so that we may develop a policy which fulfills the first responsibility of our immigration laws; how do they benefit the United States.
